Community Essentials
As humans we are made for relationships. The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone…” (Gen 2:18). God created us with the need to relate to other people and to be loved. God himself exists in community – God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. That is why being involved in community is so important to our personal well-being and spiritual growth. Yet, too often that community connection that we crave (and need) is lacking in our lives. That is why the Kaufman Church of Christ has created its HomeTeams ministry.
HomeTeams
HomeTeams are small, spiritual communities of individuals who desire to be involved in one another’s lives. This happens primarily in a weekly meeting which takes place in the home of a host family from the Kaufman Church of Christ. It may also include other outside social activities and sharing meals together. These groups are committed to caring for one another, learning how to love others, and drawing in those who are not part of a healthy community of faith.
Jesus lived life in a community and modeled community for us. The early church patterned its faith development on the same concept of small communities of faith. “They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” (Acts 2:46, 47)
Why We Value Our HomeTeams
The leadership of the KCOC has committed itself to making sure every member and visitor is cared for. Our intention, then, is to involve every member and visitor possible in a HomeTeam of some kind. We desire that each member and visitor finds a place in which they are connected and find significance.
KCOC HomeTeams exist to:
- Allow members to exercise their spiritual gifts
- Allow our shepherds to maintain a members well-being
- Provide non-threatening place for members and visitors to connect
- Facilitate life transformation where personal spiritual growth and community faith development exist interdependently
You are Invited to Visit a Group
Whether you are checking out Christianity for the first time or you have been a believer for years, HomeTeams are communities of faith in which you will find acceptance and your spiritual growth and development is valued. The following list shows the kinds of groups that we currently have at the KCOC. We encourage our groups to discover their spiritual gifts and find a group to join which will help them utilize that gift.
- Bible Study Groups
- Mentoring/Caring Groups
- Prayer Groups
- Outreach Groups
We encourage you to visit a group at least twice to help decide if it is the right group for you and your family. Feel free to visit as many groups as necessary. If you have questions, or need some help, feel free to call Cory at 972-932-6576.
